    The disturbing and traumatic rise of physical and sexual abuse of children has claimed the attention of society.  The following policies reflect our commitment to provide protective care of all children and youth that participate in church sponsored activities.

    1. Adults who have been convicted of either sexual or physical abuse of children or spousal abuse should not volunteer for a church-sponsored activity or program involving children or youth.
    2. Adult survivors of childhood sexual or physical abuse need the love and acceptance of the church.  Those who have such a history should discuss this matter in a confidential interview with the pastor before engaging in any volunteer service.  Being a victim of abuse or molestation while a minor does not automatically disqualify you from working with children or youth in the church. 
    3. Adult volunteers should observe the “two adult” rule.  This requires that adults are never alone with a child without an adult partner.  If this is not possible, then doors must be kept open and the adult must be plain sight. 
    4. Adult volunteers should immediately report any behavior which seems abusive or inappropriate.
    5. Adult volunteers must initiate a background screening through Security Forces (form provided by church) and give permission for an agent of Aviano Baptist Church to run a check on the National Sex Offender Registry.

    Aviano Baptist will treat all personal background information as confidential.  Only the pastor and ministry leaders with a need to know will be granted access.
